accueil à propos interview commandes publiques peinture 2000-2018 2018-2017-2016 2015-2014-2012 2011 2010 2009 : pochoirs 2008 2007 2006 2005 2004 2003 2002 2001 2000 peinture 1981-2000 1999 nus 1998 1998 prix victor schoelcher 1997-1996 1995 1994 1993 senlis /ruines 1992 1991 1990 1989 1988 1987_1986 1984-1985 1981-1983 livres d'artiste dessins illustrations ombre et lumière installations vidéos photographie mes expositions contact mentions legales corine sylvia congiu accueil démarche i) la peinture : mon tableau est un lieu ouvert où se joue un théâtre de figures abstraites * , qui ont une énergie, un parcours, un rôle au sein d’actions qui forment une dramaturgie. structure d’ensemble, ces figures et ces mouvements sont lisibles par le spectateur, par des interprétations inconscientes et acquises , archaïques ou très érudites. chaque spectateur aura son interprétation de chaque figure (la tache rouge, le carré, la ligne d’horizon, etc…), et des relations dynamiques entre elles, mais il reste que le sens général est donné par l’auteur qui imbrique les figures dans la structure dynamique et en fait une sorte de rébus. chaque interprétation est comme un calque qui se superpose à la précédente, et la totalité de ces calques constitue le sens de la toile, en filigrane. c’est pourquoi je demande au spectateur qui visite mon atelier de nommer le tableau de son choix, et parfois je garde le titre du spectateur, si je le trouve assez évocateur et poétique. ex : « l’affaire charles dexter ward-lovecraft, michèle_lefebvre-1984 » est un titre donné par une amie, parce que l’ambiance du tableau lui rappelait celle de la nouvelle de lovecraft. rarement je nomme le tableau moi-même (« os avec rébus dans la nuit » ou « toiles d’hiver en désir de printemps », « promontoire de l’oubli »…). chaque tableau actuellement sans titre attend sa nomination par un spectateur. avis aux amateurs ! jeu : soumettez votre titre à corine@congiu.fr qui le validera ou non. * figures abstraites : l’histoire de l’art a opposé figure et abstraction , pourtant la période du formalisme a prouvé que les figures pouvaient aussi être abstraites, chaque artiste faisant sa spécialité de la déclinaison d’une seule figure (barnett newman, albers, pollock, buren, bmpt, fontana…) ou d’une seule couleur (soulages, ryman, klein…). le mot « figure » suppose l’existence de deux termes, ce qui est figuré et ce qui figure, c'est-à-dire l’existence d’un sens symbolique que la peinture formaliste refuse généralement. les nommer figures c’est donc les recharger d’un sens symbolique et les impliquer comme vocabulaire de signes, (dans une tradition qui remonte à kandinsky et par lui au traité des couleurs de goethe). c’est en cela que cette peinture revisite les acquis du 20° siècle. ii) art contemporain et art moderne alors que l’art moderne n’aime pas l’éclectisme (accusé parfois de dilettantisme) de l’artiste jouant de plusieurs pratiques, dans l’art contemporain, l’œuvre n’est pas réduite à l’objet (peinture, vidéo, performance, éléments de documentation sur l’œuvre, écrits divers). c’est la déclinaison d’un concept abstrait qui constitue l’œuvre véritable. il y a une redéfinition de l’art et de l’artiste, où celui-ci n’est pas confiné dans une seule pratique mais met en jeu plusieurs techniques qui trouvent leur cohérence par un discours les unifiant. mon travail ne joue pas sur le sensationnel ou le scandale que l’on est autorisé à attendre selon le paradigme de l’art contemporain (cf. nathalie heinich), il se présente comme une résistance à un art qui a coupé les amarres avec le public, dans sa frénésie à n’être plus que la fuite en avant d’une réflexion sur l’art qui perd de vue ce qu’il y a de profondément humain . ma peinture, mes vidéos, performances, romans, ont pour concept commun une interrogation sur l’être et le devenir , sans manifeste, dans ce qu’umberto ecco nomme une œuvre ouverte [1] . (opera aperta, 1962 ) [1] (où l’ambigüité et la pluralité des signifiés est une fin explicite : l’œuvre peut être interprétée de différentes façons sans que son irréductible singularité en soit altérée » . ) . english my canvas is an open space where a scene is performed by abstract figures* who have an energy, a path, a role within actions that form a "dramaturgie". these figures and movements form an overarching structure that the audience can decipher through unconscious, acquired, archaic or erudite interpretations. individual viewers arrive at their own interpretation of each figure (the red spot, the square, the line of the horizon, etc.), and of the dynamic relationships between them. it remains, however, that the general meaning is given by the author who embeds the figures in this dynamic structure and makes it a kind of rebus. each interpretation is like a layer of tracing paper that is superimposed on the previous one, and the totality of these layers constitutes the meaning of the painting, like a watermark. this is why i ask viewers who visit my workshop to give a title to any of the paintings. sometimes i keep the title if i find it particularly evocative and poetic. for example, the case of charles dexter ward was a title given by a friend (michèle lefebvre, 1984) because the ambience of the painting reminded her of the novella by lovecraft. rarely do i title a painting myself. exceptions include os avec rébus dans la nuit ( bone with rebus in the night ), toiles d’hiver en désir de printemps ( winter canvasses desiring spring ), and promontoire de l’oubli ( promontory of oblivion ). each untitled canvas is waiting to be named. any ideas you’d like to share? if so, submit your titles to corine@congiu.fr and i will give you a yea or nay. * abstract figures: art history has contrasted figure and abstraction, however the era of formalism proved that figures could also be abstract, with each artist specializing in the iteration of a single figure (barnett newman, albers, pollock, buren, bmpt, fontana, etc.) or a single color (soulages, ryman, klein, etc.). the word "figure" supposes two terms: what is figurative and what appears. as such, "figure" contains a symbolic meaning that formalist painting generally refuses. to call them figures is, therefore, to replenish them with a symbolic meaning and to incorporate them into a vocabulary of signs (in a tradition that goes back to kandinsky and, through him, to goethe's treatise on colors ). in this way, this approach to painting revisits the achievements of the 20 th century. * contemporary art and modern art : modern art critics are not fond of artists who are eclectic, that is, who use different practices, often accusing them of dilettantism. contemporary art, however, isn't reduced to the object (painting, video, performance, documentary elements about the work, various writings, etc.). it's the expression of an abstract concept that constitutes the true work. there is a redefinition of art and artist: artists are no longer confined to one practice, allowing them to explore many techniques which find their coherence in a unifying discourse. my work doesn't play on the sensationalism or scandal that, according to the paradigm of contemporary art (cf. nathalie heinich), one may expect. it is presented as a resistance to art which has cut all ties with the audience and which, in its frenzied haste to be merely a comment about art, loses sight of what is profoundly human. the shared concept of my painting, videos, performances and novels is the questioning of being and becoming, without a manifesto, in what umberto eco names an open work ( opera aperta , the open work , 1962). 1 1 where the ambiguity and the plurality of the signified is an explicit aim: the work can be interpreted in different ways without its irreducible singularity being altered. lier votre compte twitter connexion à facebook mentions légales | politique de confidentialité | politique des cookies | plan du site connexion déconnecter | modifier fermer
